Symptoms of hypothyroidism begin to appear slowly over a period of weeks or months. You may have hypothyroidism for a long time and not know it. Symptoms vary depending on the degree of hypothyroidism and how long your body has not had the right amount of thyroid hormone.

You may have only one of these symptoms, but patients usually have one combination. Some patients with hypothyroidism have no symptoms or suffer from mild symptoms that go unnoticed for prolonged periods. Symptoms include:

  • Enlarged thyroid gland, called goiter (not always present)
  • Full neck
  • Difficulty swallowing or To breathe (this can happen if the goiter is very large)

Other symptoms or signs include: Fatigue Weakness Rough and brittle hair and hair loss < / Li> Dry and flaky skin Impossible to tolerate low temperatures Weight gain (may happen despite having a poor appetite) Constipation Pain throughout the body Depression and irritability Memory loss and personality changes Irregular menstrual periods Abundant Facial swelling Swollen feet or hands Infertility Less sweating

Symptoms of Severe or prolonged cases are:

  • Skin and tissue swelling around the eyes
  • Slow heart rate
  • Hypothermia (low body temperature)
  • Shortness of breath when performing activities or lying down
  • Drowsiness and decreased mental alertness
