'Mr Potato Head' Don Rickles dies at age of 90

Rickles appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".

Kimmel wasn't the only late-night host to pay his respects to the comic legend.

Rickles guested on Kimmel's show 18 times since it went on the air in 2003, and over that period, Kimmel and Rickles formed a meaningful relationship with each other, both on and off set. "It was like I was in some talk-show host fantasy camp, sitting behind a desk while Don Rickles made fun of me".

The 12-minute opening monologue detailed the host's relationship with Rickles, starting from his childhood growing up in Las Vegas, where Rickles often performed. It would be worth noting that this was how he got the nickname, Mr. Warmth.

Don then added: "Frank, believe me, I'm telling you this as a friend: Your voice is gone".

Rickles burst onto the national stage after he began appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1965. "At the end of the meal, he said, 'I can't believe you took me to a pizza place'".

"I remember thinking there's nothing better than getting burned by Don Rickles", Meyers said.

The 90-year-old icon had been in failing health and recently cancelled a May 6 show at the River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa.

Rickles is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; his daughter, Mindy Mann; and two grandchildren, Ethan and Harrison Mann.

Rickles had a career lasting more than 50 years, becoming famous for his particular variety of insult comedy.

Kimmel's guest, Adam Sandler, also had wonderful things to say about Rickles.
