GOP drops US-Mexico wall demands as spending talks advance

Videgaray repeated in a meeting with legislators that Mexico "won't pay a cent" for the wall.

With a little more than 48 hours to go until the bill funding the federal government expires, lawmakers are scrambling to come up with a plan to prevent a partial shutdown of the federal government.

President Donald Trump on Thursday deflected concerns that Congress may be unable to pass a new spending bill to keep government operations afloat.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made a similar prediction earlier in the day.

After the election, Trump seemed to relax his expectations, telling "60 Minutes" that he would be OK with a fence along certain stretches - though he maintained a wall remained more appropriate for others.

Democrats said they were anxious Republicans could try to attach language limiting family-planning funds or undo Wall Street reforms enacted after the 2007-09 financial crisis. But its inclusion in a piece of must-pass legislation could shatter support for the underlying funding bill with virtually every Democrat, and puts the president at odds with most of his own party.

With jitters rippling through Washington, Trump apparently agreed to soften his demand days before the deadline. Democrats firmly oppose any new money for construction of a wall, but have said they are willing to agree to significant increases in defense spending, including money for the Department of Homeland Security to spend on surveillance and security on the border with Mexico.

Trump vowed to fight for the wall.

McCarthy told reporters late Thursday that the health care vote would not occur Friday or Saturday.

Bradley scores 23, Celtics eliminate Bulls 105-83
Chyna Thomas, 22, died in a auto accident on April 15, the day before the Celtics began their playoff series against the Bulls . All indications are the Bulls will do just that, especially with three more years and $15 million left on Hoiberg's contract.

John Wall scores 42 points, Wizards eliminate Hawks 115-99
John Wall exploded for 42 points in Game 6 to finish with averages of 29.5 points and 10.3 assists per game in the first round. Washington's lead was cut to just three points after Atlanta guard Jose Calderon hit a three-pointer with nine minutes left.

What is the Browns' biggest draft need?
This draft class lacks a true top-10 quarterback, but the "value" of the position always pushes players up the board. The NFL mock drafts give way to the real thing Thursday, and even the experts can not predict what might happen.

But we know that drug traffickers always find a way, as long as USA demand for the stuff is high. "So I think there will be debate on it". Over recess, the administration took a harder line on the shutdown deadline, saying funding for the wall is a "must", and Trump tweeted that Obamacare is in "serious trouble".

Schumer, for his part, said Democrats are negotiating for provisions on health care for coal miners, aid to Puerto Rico and health care subsidies.

"We are never going to shut government down".

A top Mexican official said the country may consider charging an entrance fee for Americans, a move that could be in retaliation for President Trump's ongoing push for a border wall. But in the meantime, members of Congress might learn something from the White House.

The White House also insisted that there has been no change in the position when it comes to building the wall.

The President of America pledged that he'd build a wall along the USA's southern border, and that Mexico would pay for it.

Reporter: Yesterday, President Trump reportedly said he is going to delay pushing the wall through. Democrats quickly declared that would be a deal-breaker.

Lawmakers have warned that a stopgap measure, known as a continuing resolution, may be needed to give Congress breathing room to finalize the spending details. Some Republicans appeared hesitant to embrace such slashes to corporate tax rates. House Republicans have now officially dropped the measure from their spending plan. When Kate Steinle, one of Mrs. Pelosi's constituents, was slain in 2015 by an illegal alien from Mexico who had encountered no barrier on the border to sanctuary in San Francisco, Mrs. Pelosi had nothing to say about the immorality of taking an innocent life.
