The Dolphins finished a great season with a 35-14 home loss to the New England Patriots, now going into the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase talked about the loss .

"I know we had some opportunities, but we did not run some things properly," said Gase. "We just did not play as well as we needed at the beginning." The game began with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady moving the ball around the field with his skillful, precise steps. Brady rushed for a first down as the Patriots converted many third downs on the way to a 2-yard touchdown pass to Martellus Bennett.

Brady finished the day with 276 yards and three touchdowns.

The Dolphins could not do anything in their first possession.

Patriots running back LaGarrette Blount was able to move the ball to the Patriots' redzone and scored in a 14-yard pass to Michael Floyd.

The Dolphins' next possession ended abruptly after Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore launched an interception to Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan.

Moore ended the day by throwing 205 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The Patriots looked set to score again before the first period ended, but Patriots catcher Julian Edelman received an unsportsmanlike conduct infraction. The Patriots scored a 40-yard field goal to put the score 17-0.

After another break by the Dolphins, Brady again showed his genius, dissecting the defense of the Dolphins and moving the ball around the field with ease and also with the help of some Dolphins infractions. The Dolphins stopped him in the redzone and kicker Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 26-yard field goal that left the board 20-0.

Landry spoke after the game.

"We just have to move forward and see that we can correct and start faster on the offense," Landry said. "

Ajayi had a difficult day and finished the game running only 59 yards.

Landry received an unsportsmanlike conduct infraction and gave the Patriots a good position on the field, but Gostkowski lost a 52-yard field goal at half-time.

At the beginning of the third period, Moore threw good passes and conversions from the third down and was able to throw a touchdown to Kenny Stills to close the gap.

However, Brady responded with a quick pass to Edelman who broke for a 77-yard touchdown and set the slate 27-14.

After some clearances, the Dolphins moved the ball into the field early in the fourth quarter with big catches from Landry and DeVante Parker . In 'redzone', Damien Williams lost the ball and the Patriots were able to return it to the 'redzone' opponent.

Blount quickly scored and Patriots coach Bill Belichick went after two points. Edelman converted the colon conversion and put the slate 35-14.

The Dolphins will now play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the playoffs. This season at home, the Dolphins beat the Steelers 30-15.

Ajayi and offensive lineman of the Dolphins Branden Albert talk about the postseason.

"We have to focus on winning and small things for the playoffs," said Albert.

"The season is over," said Ajayi. "We know what we play for ... We win or the house."
